Fewer Americans Move

In 1948, the first year the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey asked the question, 20.2 percent of Americans had moved in the past year. In 2021 the figure was 8.4 percent. The Census Bureau called it “a new historical low.”

The share of Americans who move each year has fallen by more than half.
