Americans recognize that plans will need to change as circumstances evolve. The initial plan rarely survives unchanged—conditions shift, new information emerges, and execution reveals what planning could not anticipate. American planning includes the expectation that adjustment is normal and necessary.
This doesn’t mean plans are unimportant—they provide frameworks and preparation—but it means rigid adherence to plans that aren’t working is seen as foolish. Demonstrate willingness to adjust when working with Americans. They understand that good planners adapt; the value of planning lies partly in the readiness and frameworks it creates for intelligent adaptation, not just in the specific predictions a plan contains.
