Keep Me in the Loop

American office English has a vocabulary for acting first and informing afterward.

own it — take full responsibility for a task or a mistake.

run with it — take an idea or a task and carry it forward without further instruction.

take point — volunteer to lead on an issue. In the military, the point man walks first.

keep me in the loop — what a manager says who wants to be informed, not asked.

FYI — “for your information.” A note sent to inform, not to request approval.
