Wikipedia’s editing policy has a section headed “Wikipedia is a work in progress: perfection is not required.” It says that “incomplete or poorly written first drafts can evolve over time into excellent articles.” It adds: “Even poor articles, if they can be improved, are welcome.”
Before Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales had founded Nupedia. It used “highly qualified volunteer contributors and an elaborate multi-step peer review process,” and it produced 12 articles in its first year. Wikipedia was launched on January 15, 2001, as a feeder project for Nupedia. By the end of its first year it had more than 20,000 entries.
