Central government offices in India close on a fixed list of compulsory holidays. Each year the Department of Personnel and Training also publishes a list of restricted holidays, most of them festivals of the different religious communities. In Delhi, from this list “each employee will also be allowed to avail himself/herself of any two holidays.” Offices elsewhere use a somewhat different scheme.
