“It’s better to be a pirate than join the Navy.” Steve Jobs gave this saying to the Macintosh team at a retreat in 1983. A black flag followed. Susan Kare painted a skull and crossbones on it, with the Apple rainbow logo as the eye patch. The flag flew over Bandley 3, the Macintosh building.
The Macintosh team and the Lisa team both worked inside Apple. Both were building computers with a graphical interface, and tension grew between them.
