Lockdown

In 2011, on the day Google launched its social network Google+, Mark Zuckerberg called an emergency meeting at Facebook. He declared “Lockdown.” A neon sign announced it. Zuckerberg ended his speech with the Latin phrase Carthago delenda est, “Carthage must be destroyed.”

A former employee described Lockdown as a “state of war that dated to Facebook’s earliest days.” During Lockdown, “no one could leave the building.”

The account comes from the 2016 book Chaos Monkeys by Antonio García Martínez, who worked at Facebook.
