On September 15, 2026, the Karnataka government issued an order allowing engineers to use the prefix “Er.” before their names. It came with a decision to make Engineers’ Day, September 15, an official state event from 2027. The day marks the birthday of the engineer M. Visvesvaraya.
The prefix followed a similar one for teachers, “Tr.”
