For years Facebook printed its motto on the office walls. It was “move fast and break things.”
In 2014 Mark Zuckerberg changed it. The new motto was “move fast with stable infrastructure.” By then the company had grown, and broken software carried real costs. Zuckerberg announced the change at the F8 developer conference.
The old motto is the one people still quote. It came to stand for a whole era of American software.
