Some German lawyers bill their time in units of 15 minutes, and every quarter hour that has started is charged in full. In 2020 the Federal Court of Justice ruled that such a clause is invalid in contracts with consumers. According to the legal publisher Haufe, the court found that such clauses open wide room for abuse. The lawyer’s work must be described concretely. Haufe adds that the actual effort must be documented exactly.
