In 2019 the job site Indeed surveyed more than 4,000 job seekers and nearly 900 employers. Of the employers, 83% said they had been ghosted, and 65% reported new hires who did not show up on their first day.
The survey also found, CNBC reported, that 70% of employers keep a record of an employee who did not show up for the first day. Yet 94% of the job seekers who ghosted said they had experienced little or no negative consequence.
